Interdisciplinary and Innovative Approaches to Occupational Safety and Health

Prevention through Design (PtD)

Prevention through Design (PtD) is the optimal method of preventing occupational illnesses, injuries, and fatalities by “designing out” the hazards and risks; thereby, eliminating the need to control them during work operations.  This approach involves the design of tools, equipment, systems, work processes, and facilities in order to reduce, or eliminate, hazards associated with work.

Research to Practice (R2P)

Research-to-Practice (R2P) aims to translate or transfer research-based knowledge, interventions, or technologies into practical use in the real environment or intended context.  For occupational safety and health, the goal of R2P is to reduce fatalities, illnesses, and injuries by successful translation of research outcome.  R2P requires research topics relevant to the stakeholders, and appropriate means to disseminate the outcome to workers.
